Composing for the Edge

The edge is always where things were happening because it was always where improvements in capability, catalogs, or cost could happen. Typically, the combination of multiple innovations led to opportunity being created at some facet of an organization’s operation or development. The edge as opportunity, then, was where we were trained to look when applying innovation, itself.

Now, the edge is the digital twin of an organization’s future. Whether to serve experience programs, automate manual processes, or develop new revenue opportunities, the edge is the place.

What we know is that the edge is the digital frontier. It is where emerging technologies are likely to meet, at scale and in serious numbers, that turn the unknown into the well-known.

What are now insights into how to adopt tools, techniques, and tradecraft to development of net new market compositions will form the history of the edge as we come to know it. As edges become networks, themselves, the potential for solving complex systems challenges might well be that history.

The 12 factor platform

As a component of building sustainable digital futures, a method for bringing reference architectures, best practices, and use cases together enables others.

We know that there will always be shortages of time, budget, and most importantly talent to enable an organization to ‘shift right’. To move toward meeting its purpose better or toward enabling a digital stakeholder catalog.

We have the evidence that decsecops and SRE are shifting work left. Each is a feedback loop to the other in a CI/CD journey. Observability continues to evolve to the point where we can see model based CI/CD-as-a-Service to support what is already CI/CD as Code.

The emergence of a 12 factor platform as a way to lift what we need to do next and shift it right provides a path for the devsecops-SRE convergence to move forward. When a piece of the CI/CD cycle moves on to a minimum viable next gen solution on a 12 factor platform, teams can test the future. Using artifacts, architectures, and automation tools already known to the teams, proposed future state capability can be evaluated.

Our Edge

  • Service Catalogs

As catalogs are developed, they will be supported here as parts of the Composable Edge portfolio.

  • Research Topics

Insights developed from extending an understanding of what an edge is, new facets will be described here.
