from past to future-proof?
Now that generative AI is ripe for the hype across industries, we need to look to our own perspectives and see what might have become of them, if only we had prompt engineering sooner.
It turns out to be a not bad idea to do just that. Though all recognize that generative AI is in its infancy as a protocol for doing commerce, business, or service delivery, we know it can impact any and all of those things, including where they may converge on each other. Maybe the word would be ‘inverge’ as in business can use generative AI to inverge on the service delivery market any time it chooses…or something like that.
Just as digital transformation disruption can come from places not known to be competitors, generative AI makes anyone who can type a competitor to anything at all. Maybe the idea is laughable now that data science has developed its capabilities and value propositions to an appreciable level. But what if..
And that’s the rub. What if this, that, the next thing, our next thing is going to be what your next thing was going to be, and so on. It’s not the big that eat the small, or the fast that overtake the slow, but rather the degree to which prompts can transmogorify your space of special interest.
Organizaitons are already wheeling about to face a future in which typing substitutes for workplace tasks and API’s substitute for task forces. We need to help each other as best we can learn to adapt it to us rather than take a more passive role in it.
From industry analysts, this is what is imagined to be coming.
What’s the future of generative AI? An early view in 15 charts | McKinsey; accessed 29 august 2023
That perspective is from an industry level view. From a market level view, the top technology trends going forward can all benefit from generative AI. Whether to bootstrap, operate, improve or sustain a technology trend, it is likely that generative AI will impact the rate at which these technologies can be adopted.

In a future Note, we will provide an example of how generative AI can accelerate the adoption of these technologies by ‘filling in the blanks’ of the model developed by Gartner.
